Hello to all new artists and music lovers. I'm Joey or "Katabok".
As of 22/07/2017 I am a 22 year old University graduate, as to what I studied I will get into that at a later blog post. So how did I come to the conclusion that I wanted to produce music/hip hop instrumentals? It all started because of DUBSTEP. During my 11th grade in Highschool I was intrigued by the noises dubstep producers such as Nero, Rusko and Skrillex produced, I thought hell why not give this a try? So i got myself FL studio 10 and Long story short, I tried and I failed :(
Fast forward to grade 12, I found this youtube commentary site called "thaddeus peautershmidt" (unfortunately got banned) I use to love watching his COD commentary and contrary to all autistic wob wob intro music expectations this guy used ..... TRAP BEATS. He was talking about how he bought the intro music from a guy called "superstarbeats". I did some research into trap music, and like most producers in our generation I stumbled upon the one, the only ..... the trend setter .. LEX LUGER.
So from year 12 - 2nd year of uni I was absorbing and trying to recreate all sorts of Lex Luger type beats. Unfortunately I didn't progress as well in my producing skills because of university commitments, interest in bitcoins/stocks & forex (I'll talk about this on another blog). I pretty much gave up producing for 6 months because I felt like this wasn't for me.
Nek minute I hear "muzza onda be HOE", on the song "2 on" with Tinashe, I like what I heard and I tried to make my own version of that "mustard on the beat hoe". It was at the end of second year I became introduced to the weeknd and started listening to his producers techniques. In my opinion his production pretty much influenced the dark soul/ trap beats of this generation (GOD BLESS) and damn well influenced me. I was like " damn how'd he make that shit sound so creepy, smooth and BUMPIN all at the same time ?!?!".
By the end of my 3rd year of uni, I discovered the already infamous METRO BOOMIN, I thought man this guys high hats are insane, pretty much set the "tick tick tick tick tick tickity tick tick" pattern that's so widely used now (by me also hahahaha).
So my fourth year of uni was all about balancing my work load stress (FUCK THESIS), and creating beats. At this point I believed my skills in beat producing to be adequate (producing about 1 listenable beat a month). I remember the days of beats > uni where I would stay up till 3AM just to figure out how to EQ a particular melody so it doesn't sound like the rest of my other beats HAHA.
Well Here I AM NOW. 2017, I can say I did everything that was expected of me. I finished uni, got a scholarship, graduated with first class honors. But unfortunately the market for engineers isn't so fresh right now (YES I STUDIED ENGINEERING) and I was left unemployed for the new year. So I took a trip to Bangkok -> Indo -> Japan -> back to Aus. Life's tough, it isn't fair, but it's not so bad. We live in a generation with the most self made millionaires. If they can make it, whats stopping you or me? With this mindset, early this year I started making beats and uploading them onto spotify/itunes (LINKS BELOW). I have definitely made a significant progress from my old soundcloud beat days.
NOW ITS TIME TO GET SERIOUS (SHOUT OUT SERIOUSBEATS LOL). I signed up with soundgine pro because I'm serious about making music. I want to create quality musical content and be the one to control my brand (not some other 3rd party). I'm keen to grow with the soundgine vue platform to see whether it's the "brand" or the "beatplayer" that makes a hip hop rnb trap step producer popular.
TO ALL UPCOMING PRODUCERS. PLEASE read the terms and agreement properly before signing up to anything. Please understand how ContentID works and how to implement it YOURSELF (google AdRev, i'm still in the process of learning myself). Remember, at the end of the day YOU should be in control of your product (not a 3rd party) and it's your responsibility to learn all the nicks about it.
Anyways, I'll try blogging once a week. Lemme know what you want me to talk about.
Kind Regards,
Katabok
